The CU Climbing Team is the competitive rock climbing team at The University of Colorado at Boulder. As a team, we compete in the USA Climbing Collegiate Climbing Series (CCS) and have placed as high as 2nd nationally. Our team ranges from seasoned USA Climbing competitors to those who are growing their love for the sport. While we may have diverse climbing backgrounds, as a team we strive to improve as both climbers and people. During the school year, the team will be practicing at Movement Boulder along with the occasional visit to other Movement or Earth Treks locations. This year, practices will be structured with more guided training and climbing.
Although we love our plastic pulling, we are fortunate to have some amazing climbing in the Front Range. From bouldering, to sport climbing, to trad climbing the CU Climbing Team does it all. We love to organize day trips to local areas such as Boulder Canyon, Clear Creek, and Eldorado Canyon. We also look forward to running some trips to destination climbing areas such as Roy or Joes Valley for a weekend or even a week over school breaks.
While the team is competition focused, one of the most important things for us is the community. Whether you’ve been on the scene for most of your life, or if you’ve just gotten the climbing bug, we want to foster a supportive community where everyone feels welcome. To make sure that happens, we’re going to be making an effort to interact with and build relationships within the greater CU Climbing community outside of team practices and competitions. We are looking forward to enjoying climbing movie nights, pot lucks, sports games, and are open to other ideas as well!
When I came to CU, I didn’t really know if I wanted to continue with competitive climbing or just climb for fun. I explored the social experiences the university had to offer but ultimately, I found my home away from home and my friends on the CU Climbing Team. I hope the CU Climbing Team can be a place for you. We’re all super excited to meet you!
